New York Botanical Garden

One of my absolute favorite things to do in New York each year is to visit the Orchid Show at the New York Botanical Garden in the Bronx. And this year, it is truly a spectacular display of blooms that many have called nothing short of “dazzling.” The show, aptly called “Kaleidoscope,” is curated by Jeff Leatham, the artistic director at the Four Seasons Hotel George V in Paris, and one of the most renowned horticulturists in the world. (Fun fact: Leatham has created displays for Dolly Parton and Oprah, to name just a few notables!)

Leatham’s show is truly a feast for the eyes, featuring impressive orchid towers of vibrant green, yellow, orange, and purple—and also including some seldom-seen blooms. The stunning displays have elicited the admiration of all who have come to witness the fabulous burst of nature. And from all accounts, it will be the most visited orchid show in the 19 years that the Botanical Garden has produced the annual event.

Time Out Magazine says of the show, “ The Orchid Show at the New York Botanical Garden will transport visitors into a dreamy kaleidoscope of colors.” And according to The Gothamist, “a taste of the tropics is in full bloom” in the Bronx.

The 2020 Orchid Show, which was also designed by Leatham, was cut short due to the pandemic—but it’s back and better than ever. Leatham has updated his creations and transformed the galleries into orchid paradises that dazzle the senses. Each gallery is unique, displaying palettes of varying colors and forms—hence the name “Kaleidoscope.”

You owe yourself a visit to view these spectacular flowers and enjoy this once-per-year New York event before it ends on May 1.
